South Western Railway (SWR) has been allocated Rs 2,110 crore under the Amrit Station Scheme for the redevelopment of 61 railway stations across Karnataka, with the zone’s total budget for the 2026–27 financial year increased to Rs 7,748 crore.
SWR Additional General Manager P. Anath said redevelopment works have been completed at Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Gokak Road, and Munirabad stations, while work at Badami, Alnavar, Koppal, and Bantwal is yet to commence.
He noted that rail connectivity within and beyond Karnataka has improved significantly, with 12 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains and three pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains currently operating in the state, providing faster, more comfortable, and efficient travel options for passengers.
Highlighting infrastructure expansion, Anath said that since 2014, about 1,750 km of new railway lines have been laid in Karnataka. Electrification has reached 97 percent of the network, with 3,368 km of rail lines electrified during the period, supporting energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable operations. He added that 707 flyovers and underpasses have been constructed to improve safety and ensure smoother road–rail connectivity.
