Suzuki Motor will set electric SUV manufacturing facility in Gujrat

Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG) is gearing up for a significant leap into the electric vehicle (EV) market with plans to manufacture its upcoming electric SUV at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. The expansion includes the addition of a new plant, specifically designated for EV production, signaling the company's commitment to embracing the future of automotive technology.

In March 2022, Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent company of SMG, inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat government, pledging a substantial investment of Rs 3,100 crore in the Hansalpur plant. This financial commitment underscores the strategic importance of EV manufacturing for Suzuki in the Indian market.

The much-anticipated EV, expected to debut in the next financial year, promises to be a noteworthy contender in the electric SUV segment. Boasting an impressive 550 km range on a single charge and equipped with a robust 60 KWh battery, the vehicle positions itself as a high-specification offering, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.

The Hansalpur facility, which already houses three plants (A, B, and C), has recently achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing three million cumulative productions. This achievement underscores the success of SMG's manufacturing operations and positions the company as a key player in the Indian automotive landscape.

With an annual production capacity of 7.5 lakh units, the Gujarat facility plays a pivotal role in meeting domestic demand and catering to international markets through vehicle exports. SMG, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, has been instrumental in manufacturing popular models like Baleno, Swift, Dzire, Fronx, and Tour S at this cutting-edge facility.

As the automotive industry continues its transition towards sustainable mobility solutions, SMG's foray into electric vehicles marks a crucial step in contributing to the evolution of the Indian automotive sector. The successful rollout of the upcoming electric SUV will undoubtedly be a key milestone in Suzuki's journey towards a more sustainable and electrified future.
