Taking Flight: IGI Airport Reopens Fully Upgraded Third Runway

11R/29L—widely known as the third runway—at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport following the successful completion of its rehabilitation programme.

Launched in February 2026, the comprehensive overhaul introduced critical airside enhancements aimed at boosting operational safety, efficiency, and long-term capacity at the aviation hub. The upgrade project featured complete runway resurfacing, pavement strengthening, and the construction of a new Rapid Exit Taxiway (RET Z1). Furthermore, state-of-the-art airfield ground lighting and updated civil and electrical infrastructure were seamlessly integrated.

Executed in close coordination with the DGCA, AAI, and ATC, these upgrades optimize aircraft movement and ensure greater reliability across diverse weather conditions, positioning the airport to effectively support future traffic growth.
