The Belagavi civic body has extended its 24x7 water supply scheme to four additional wards, increasing coverage to 14 out of the city's 58 wards — approximately 24% of the urban area.
Initially launched a decade ago in 10 wards and formally approved in 2018–19, the project has been rolled out in phases. The latest expansion includes two wards each from the Belagavi North and South Assembly constituencies. The remaining 44 wards still rely on the older system, which supplies water twice a week. Both systems source water from the Hidkal Dam and Rakkasakoppa reservoir.
The expanded service was inaugurated on August 15 by PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi, along with MLAs Abhay Patil and Asif (Raju) Sait. Minister Jarkiholi noted that around 2,000 homes in Kanabaragi and surrounding areas will now receive continuous water supply, while MLA Patil highlighted benefits for 1,500 households in Rani Channamma Nagar.
The initiative is being implemented by KUIDFC and L&T under the Karnataka Urban Water Supply Modernization Project (KUWSMP).
