Tata Advanced Systems Ltd. (TASL) will set up India’s first private-sector helicopter final assembly line (FAL) in Vemagal, Karnataka, to manufacture Airbus H125 helicopters. This marks a major milestone in India’s aerospace manufacturing journey and strengthens the 'Make in India' initiative.
The facility will produce H125 helicopters for both civil and para-public markets, while also addressing the Indian Armed Forces’ requirement for a light, multi-role helicopter—especially suited for high-altitude operations in the Himalayan region. A military variant, the H125M, is also planned, featuring a high level of indigenous content and advanced technology integration.
Production is expected to commence with the first helicopter delivery scheduled for early 2027.
The Vemagal facility will also serve as a hub for helicopter exports across South Asia, tapping into regional demand and positioning India as a competitive player in the global rotorcraft market. This strategic move not only advances India's aerospace and defense manufacturing capabilities but also reinforces national goals of self-reliance and technological leadership.
