Tata Motors to Launch Rs 9,000 Crore EV Hub in Tamil Nadu

Tata Motors is set to transform Tamil Nadu into an export hub for Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) electric vehicles (EVs) with a Rs 9,000 crore project. By September, the company will lay the foundation stone for a facility that will mark the first instance of premium vehicle manufacturing in India. The new unit near Panapakkam in Ranipet district, strategically located near Chennai and Ennore ports, aims to be operational by late 2025 or early 2026.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony. The facility, spanning over 400 acres, will produce "Made in India" models based on JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) and Tata EVs for export. This initiative aligns with the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, enhancing the region's industrial infrastructure.

Tata Motors plans to utilize the existing ecosystem of suppliers supporting Hyundai Motor India and Renault Nissan Automotive India, while also introducing new suppliers. The state government is committed to providing the necessary ecosystem and policies to support original equipment manufacturers and vendors, fostering a robust industrial environment.

The project is a vital link in the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, which includes key infrastructure projects like the Bengaluru-Chennai expressway. This Rs. 18,000 crore expressway, expected to be completed by December, will significantly reduce travel time between the two cities, boosting industrial growth.

Tata Motors’ initiative complements the region’s diverse industrial belts, from the automobile sector in Sriperumbudur to India’s EV hub in Hosur, and the leather and upcoming footwear industries in Vellore and Panapakkam. This project is poised to accelerate Tamil Nadu’s growth as a premier industrial and export hub.
