Tata’s Power Move: In-House Battery Production Begins in Gujarat

In a major push toward technological self-reliance, Tata Group is preparing to manufacture battery cells using in-house technology for the first time. The move comes as stricter Chinese export restrictions compel manufacturers to secure local supply chains for critical components.

The group’s battery enterprise, Agratas Energy Storage Solutions Pvt., is deploying a pilot production line for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells at its flagship facility in Sanand, Gujarat.

Designed to refine manufacturing operations and validate initial cell output prior to full-scale commercialization, the pilot phase will be directed by a specialized engineering team spanning India, South Korea, and China.
