Telecom Giants, DoT Launch Joint Monitoring Centre Amid Pakistan Tensions

In response to rising tensions with Pakistan, major telecom operators — Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea — have partnered with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to launch a national-level monitoring centre aimed at ensuring uninterrupted telecom services and strengthening disaster resilience across India. The decision to establish this centre was made during a high-level meeting with the DoT on Wednesday.

The centre became operational on Thursday and now serves as a real-time communication hub connecting the DoT, Ministry of Home Affairs, and telecom operators. "We were directed to make the centre operational immediately and ensure 24/7 staffing, which was swiftly implemented in line with disaster management protocols," confirmed a senior telecom official.

As part of preparedness measures, operators joined a nationwide mock drill that included temporarily switching off signal lights on towers near airports and flight paths. Telecom providers were also instructed to maintain full functionality of infrastructure within a specified distance from the border, regardless of conditions.

Importantly, officials from two leading telecom companies noted that no requests for service suspension have been received from local authorities, emphasizing a strategy focused on readiness rather than preemptive shutdowns. The creation of this joint monitoring centre highlights the strategic importance of telecom infrastructure in national security and emergency coordination.
