Texmaco Rail & Engineering has secured the top spot as the L1 bidder for extensive electrification projects on key railway sections in Mumbai. The company's bid, valued at Rs 206.16 crore, was opened on June 18, 2024, marking a significant step forward under the Mumbai Urban Transport Projects (MUTP)-III. The projects entail comprehensive construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of crucial infrastructure, including Traction Substations (TSS), Switching Post (SP), and Sectioning Switching Post (SSP) across strategic routes. Specifically, the electrification efforts will span the Virar-Dahanu section of Western Railway, covering 64 route kilometers, and the suburban corridor from Panvel to Karjat on Central Railway, totaling 30 route kilometers.
Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation initiated the bidding process aimed at enhancing rail infrastructure to meet growing demands and improve operational efficiency. Texmaco Rail & Engineering's successful bid positions them to undertake the design and build responsibilities for the electrification projects, which include deploying 220/132/110/55kV systems and 2X25 kV Scott connected transformers. These developments are part of broader efforts to bolster Mumbai's commuter rail network, supporting smoother travel experiences and reducing dependency on traditional fuel sources.
The electrification initiatives are integral to MUTP-III's goals of modernizing Mumbai's transport infrastructure and promoting sustainable mobility solutions. The selection of Texmaco Rail & Engineering reflects their expertise and capacity to deliver complex railway electrification projects in urban settings. The projects are anticipated to enhance operational efficiency, reduce carbon footprints, and ultimately contribute to a more sustainable and resilient public transportation system in one of India's largest metropolitan areas.
