Thammanam–Pullepady Road Project Finally Moves Forward

The long-delayed Thammanam–Pullepady road development project in Kochi has gained momentum with the submission of the final Social Impact Assessment (SIA) report, which recommends the government proceed with acquiring 3.9 hectares of land.

The project aims to widen the current five-meter carriageway into a four-lane road, featuring a seven-meter-wide carriageway on each side, a 1.2-meter median, footpaths, and drainage systems. According to the report, the upgraded road will ease congestion on Banerjee Road and Sahodaran Ayyappan Road, improving traffic flow for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has sanctioned ₹93.89 crore for land acquisition to extend the project up to MG Road and the NH Bypass. The report highlights that MG Road, which runs parallel to Banerjee and Sahodaran Ayyappan roads, will also benefit from reduced traffic congestion. Once completed, the project is expected to cut travel time, reduce fuel consumption, and lower pollution levels—delivering long-term social and environmental benefits that outweigh the initial investment.
