The Big Chip Shift: Tata Electronics Partners with ROHM

ROHM and Tata Electronics have entered into a strategic partnership in the semiconductor sector to manufacture chips in India for both domestic and global markets. The collaboration combines ROHM’s advanced device technology with Tata Electronics’ assembly and testing expertise to establish a robust manufacturing framework for power semiconductors.

As an initial step, Tata Electronics will undertake the assembly and testing of automotive power-saving components designed by ROHM, with deliveries to customers expected to begin next year. The partnership is aimed at meeting growing domestic demand while offering advanced technology solutions and strengthening local manufacturing capabilities.

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s “Make in India” programme and seeks to build a sustainable, region-based semiconductor supply chain. Commenting on the collaboration, ROHM’s Kazuhide Ino expressed confidence that the partnership would help address the rising demand from Indian customers for domestically manufactured semiconductors. In parallel, Tata Electronics is developing India’s first large-scale semiconductor fabrication facility in Gujarat, along with an advanced testing and packaging unit in Assam to support multiple industries.
