Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has partnered with GPS Renewables to form a joint venture (JV) focused on establishing compressed biogas (CBG) plants across India. This strategic collaboration supports India's clean energy transition and aligns with BPCL’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions.
The JV will convert organic biomass waste into CBG, a renewable and eco-friendly fuel. Initially, 8–10 plants will be developed in states like Bihar, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal—regions selected for their rich agri-biomass availability and proximity to BPCL’s city gas distribution networks.
This regional alignment will streamline logistics and enhance operational efficiency. The initiative also aims to address key challenges such as agricultural residue management, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and rural economic upliftment. By utilizing agri-residue as feedstock, the JV offers a sustainable solution to stubble burning while creating a formal value chain for biomass procurement, driving inclusive rural development.
