The Brain of Bengaluru: Asia’s Largest AI-Powered Water Hub Goes Live

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is set to operationalise Asia’s largest advanced Integrated Water and Sewerage Management Centre, a key component of the Cauvery Phase-V project.

Located in Jayanagar and supported by funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the facility is designed to transform urban water governance through real-time monitoring and centralised command systems.

The centre will enable the supply of 775 million litres per day (MLD) of water to 110 villages, integrating water distribution and sewage management into a single digital platform. Powered by artificial intelligence, the system can forecast water demand, detect pipeline leaks in real time, and significantly reduce water losses.

It also continuously monitors critical water quality parameters such as chlorine levels, pH, and total dissolved solids (TDS), ensuring safe supply and triggering alerts in case of contamination. The command centre is connected to major treatment plants, reservoirs, and sewage facilities across the city, supporting compliance with National Green Tribunal norms.

By leveraging technologies such as IoT, GIS, and smart metering, the system can predict equipment failures in advance, lower maintenance costs, improve energy efficiency, and enable more sustainable and resilient urban water management.
