The Dahej Deal: ONGC & Petronet’s 5-Year Energy Pact

Petronet LNG (PLL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) have signed a Master Regasification Agreement (MRA) under which PLL will provide LNG regasification services at its Dahej terminal. The partnership will enable ONGC to supply regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) to meet the requirements of downstream consumers.

The agreement was signed on 27 January 2026 during India Energy Week 2026 in Goa. It will remain valid for a period of five years, with a provision for extension subject to mutual consent.

As part of its strategy to expand its presence in the Indian gas market, ONGC has expressed interest in entering gas marketing by importing LNG and selling RLNG. The move is supported by the country’s expanding pipeline infrastructure and LNG terminal network.

The MRA aligns with ONGC’s broader objective of supplementing domestic natural gas production with imported LNG to address India’s growing energy demand and strengthen gas-based supply chains.
