Germany-based ZF Group has inaugurated a new electric parking brake (EPB) production line at its manufacturing facility in Oragadam, near Chennai.
The dedicated line will manufacture EPBs for passenger vehicles and has an annual peak capacity of 800,000 units. Currently operating on a single shift, ZF plans to scale up to three shifts in the near future, with each unit assembled end-to-end by a team of seven workers. At present, around 40 percent of the EPB components are locally sourced, a figure the company aims to raise to 80–90 percent over the next two years. The new production line forms part of ZF’s ongoing investment of USD 200–250 million in India.
Commenting on the development, Akash Passey, President of ZF Region India, said that India’s evolving regulatory environment is bringing it closer to global automotive standards, thereby accelerating growth in the passenger vehicle segment. He added that increased investments by original equipment manufacturers in safety and efficiency solutions position ZF as a key partner in delivering advanced technologies to its customers.
