ChemVolt Global has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh government to set up a five GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing gigafactory, with a planned investment of ₹2,500 crore.
The project aims to strengthen India’s battery manufacturing capabilities for grid-scale energy storage, clean mobility, and commercial applications. The facility is expected to generate approximately 1,500 direct and over 4,000 indirect jobs across multiple sectors. Construction will be phased, with the first phase targeting a 1 GWh production line by 2027, followed by expansion to 5 GWh by 2029. The plant will manufacture prismatic lithium-ion cells suitable for electric vehicles and grid storage solutions.
Kuldeep Gupta, Founder and CEO of ChemVolt, highlighted that the initiative represents a significant milestone for both the company and India’s energy transition, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a global hub for advanced lithium-ion cell production. In addition, ChemVolt unveiled its Cell-to-Grid portfolio, featuring cutting-edge energy storage systems for commercial and utility-scale applications.
