The ₹1,200 Cr Plan: Gurugram Metro's Expansion Push

The structural design for Phase 2 of the Gurugram Metro project is currently in progress, featuring 13 planned stations across key areas such as Sector 4, Sector 5, Palam Vihar, and Bajghera Road.

Systra, the French consultancy overseeing the project, has nearly completed the architectural and structural designs, which will soon undergo review by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC). Concurrently, work on alignment plans for underpasses, grade separators, and Leg 1 drain development is being finalised.

Construction for Phase 2 is expected to be completed by 2030–2031, with initial development focusing on the extension towards Sector 9 and the Gurugram railway station. The project’s estimated cost ranges between ₹1,100 crore and ₹1,200 crore, according to officials.

However, a potential design shift from an elevated to an underground alignment could significantly impact both cost and timelines, possibly doubling project expenditure and extending completion. A final decision on this design modification is pending government review and approval.
