The ₹6,000 Cr Land Rush: Purandar Airport Moves Ahead

The Maharashtra government has approved a proposal to raise ₹6,000 crore for land acquisition for the proposed Purandar airport project.

The decision was cleared by the State Cabinet on February 10, 2026. Principal Secretary (Industries) P. Anbalagan stated that the funds will be utilised to acquire land for the greenfield airport, with a special purpose vehicle (SPV) already established to oversee project implementation. The SPV’s shareholding structure comprises CIDCO with a 51 per cent stake, followed by MIDC and PMRDA with 15 per cent each, and MADC holding the remaining 19 per cent.

The government is evaluating multiple funding options to secure the most favourable terms. HUDCO has offered approximately ₹3,000 crore, and commercial bids will also be invited before finalising the financing arrangement. Loan repayment will be undertaken by the SPV partners in proportion to their respective equity stakes.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, said the Purandar airport is expected to significantly boost development in Pune and western Maharashtra, supporting growth in industry, business, tourism, and agricultural exports.
