The Spark of Innovation: Hyundai's IIT Delhi Centre

Hyundai Motor Group has launched its Hyundai Centre of Excellence (Hyundai CoE) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, marking a major milestone in its global academic-industry collaboration strategy focused on future mobility. This initiative aims to accelerate innovation in electrification and battery technologies through collaborative research efforts.

The CoE debuts with nine joint research projects spanning multiple IITs. These projects focus on cutting-edge areas including advanced battery cells, battery management systems (BMS), energy density, safety, durability, diagnostics, and the development of new materials to enhance battery design and performance.

As part of its expanded Future Technology Research Programme, Hyundai is extending support to university-led research beyond South Korea, now involving international collaborators starting with IIT faculty. Previously, the program was limited to Korean institutions and scholars abroad.

Currently, Hyundai is collaborating with around 30 professors from IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Madras, and plans to grow this network to include 10 universities across India, including non-IITs, with a target of engaging around 100 professors by the end of 2025.

To further strengthen this academic ecosystem, Hyundai is establishing various support mechanisms such as:

Technology exchange forums with Indian and Korean experts

International conferences on EV and battery technologies

Policy dialogues bridging government, academia, and industry

This comprehensive approach underscores Hyundai’s commitment to advancing future mobility through strategic academic partnerships and global collaboration.
