Thripunithura-Poothotta: 9 Junctions for a Smoother Ride

The Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB) has undertaken a comprehensive redevelopment project for nine key junctions along the Thripunithura SN Junction-Poothotta road, situated on the Ernakulam-Kottayam highway. This initiative is an integral part of the broader plan to transform the 13.40-km stretch into a four-lane corridor with a width of 22 meters, enhancing connectivity between Ernakulam and Kottayam via Vaikom.

The identified junctions, including SN Junction, East Fort Junction, Puthiyakavu, and Udayamperoor, are slated for a significant makeover. The revised Detailed Project Report (DPR), which factors in the specific development needs of these nine junctions, is scheduled for completion by April 2024. Subsequently, the laying of survey stones will commence, followed by the resumption of the land acquisition process. This phase had been temporarily halted earlier due to compliance requirements and other obligatory procedures.

To facilitate the revision of the detailed project report (DPR) and carry out additional studies, a tender has been issued for the contract, which encompasses laying survey stones. The redevelopment of the junctions will adhere to the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) norms, ensuring a seamless and efficient flow of vehicular traffic through these key points.
