Tirumala’s ₹1.5 Crore Power Play: The New Biogas Initiative

On February 10, 2026, TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu reviewed the progress of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) biogas plant under construction at Kakulamanutippa in Tirumala.

The foundation stone for the project was laid five months ago, and the plant is expected to be completed by March, with operations likely to commence in May. Designed with a processing capacity of 40 tonnes of biogas per day, the facility is projected to help TTD achieve annual savings of approximately ₹1.52 crore. The initiative aims to convert organic waste into biogas, thereby reducing the burden on the Tirumala dumping yard and addressing persistent waste management challenges.

During the visit, Chairman Naidu also inspected the Sudarshan Sadan building and directed officials to resolve water leakage issues in the rooms. A final decision on whether to renovate or reconstruct the building will be taken after further consultations.
