Titagarh Naval Systems (TNSL) has secured in-principle approval from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways for its proposed brownfield expansion project at Falta.
The project, part of the Centre’s Shipbuilding Development Scheme, involves an investment of ₹610 crore and is aimed at strengthening India’s shipbuilding and maritime manufacturing capabilities. The government will extend capital assistance of ₹129 crore for eligible plant and machinery, subject to compliance with scheme guidelines.
The expansion is expected to significantly upgrade the shipyard’s infrastructure and technological capabilities, enabling it to cater to defence, commercial, and export-oriented shipbuilding requirements. It also aligns with India’s broader push to enhance its presence in the global maritime sector.
Umesh Chowdhary noted that the approval reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening the domestic shipbuilding ecosystem. He added that the expanded facility will support defence indigenisation while addressing both domestic and international demand, and position West Bengal as a growing hub for advanced maritime manufacturing.
