TP-Link Goes Local with Next-Gen Wi-Fi 7 Production in India

TP-Link India has started domestic manufacturing of its advanced Wi-Fi 7 product portfolio, becoming one of the first global technology vendors to localise production of next-generation wireless networking equipment in India.

The move follows a key notification issued by the Department of Telecommunications in January, which delicensed the lower 6GHz spectrum band. The policy exempted low-power indoor and very-low-power outdoor systems operating in the 5925–6425 MHz range from licensing requirements, paving the way for broader adoption of Wi-Fi 7 technology across enterprise and residential markets.

The company will initially manufacture its enterprise-focused Omada EAP770 access point, designed for indoor, outdoor, and in-wall deployment applications. TP-Link India plans to gradually expand localisation across its wider Wi-Fi 7 portfolio to cater to domestic demand and eventually support exports to international markets.

Currently, around 92 percent of the company’s products sold in India are manufactured locally through electronics manufacturing services partners. TP-Link aims to increase this localisation level to nearly 96–97 percent over the next three years, aligning with India’s broader manufacturing and self-reliance initiatives.

Sanjay Sehgal said the localisation of Wi-Fi 7 manufacturing reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting India’s digital infrastructure ambitions and the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, while also strengthening its manufacturing and research and development capabilities in the country.
