Vidarbha received a major boost to rail–road connectivity with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurating eight key infrastructure projects in the region. These include four road over bridges (RoBs), three road under bridges (RuBs), and the long-awaited Lakadganj flyover in Nagpur.
Executed under a 50:50 cost-sharing arrangement between the Ministry of Railways and the Maharashtra government, the projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion, enhancing road safety, and eliminating delays caused by railway level crossings. The inaugurations were part of a larger programme in which 12 rail–road projects worth ₹609 crore, constructed by MahaRail, were dedicated to the public across seven districts of Maharashtra.
Addressing the event via video conference, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reiterated the state’s goal of becoming “railway-crossing free.” He noted that out of 524 level crossings across Maharashtra, several are being replaced with RoBs and subways to ensure smoother and safer travel.
A key highlight of the initiative is the 1,372-metre-long Lakadganj flyover, constructed at a cost of ₹135 crore. The flyover is expected to significantly ease congestion along the busy Old Bhandara Road corridor, improving urban mobility and overall connectivity in Nagpur and the surrounding region.
