To tackle the ongoing natural gas shortage and boost power generation, the Tripura government plans to introduce Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) technology at the Rukhia Power Plant in Sepahijala district, enhancing its generation capacity by 120 MW.
The foundation stone for the project will be laid on November 26. Despite challenges such as limited gas availability and delays in environmental clearances, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) has continued to maintain a stable power supply by adopting advanced and efficient technologies. The new CCGT system will enable the plant to generate more electricity using the same quantity of gas, significantly improving operational efficiency.
Valued at ₹1,119 crore, the project underscores the state’s commitment to diversifying its energy mix through solar power and exploring opportunities to export surplus electricity to Nepal.
