On World Health Day, Tripura's Chief Minister and Health Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, announced an allocation of Rs 100 crore for the establishment of a state-of-the-art eye hospital in the region.
At an event organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura in Agartala on 7th April 2025, Dr. Saha highlighted that the new facility will feature advanced infrastructure and is a part of the government's broader efforts to improve healthcare services in the state. The eye hospital is expected to significantly improve access to quality eye care for the people of Tripura.
Additionally, Dr. Saha discussed the progress of ongoing healthcare initiatives, including a Maternal and Child Clinic being developed with an investment of over Rs 150 crore from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER).
The Chief Minister also mentioned that infrastructure development is underway, and there will be an increase in healthcare personnel deployment. As part of expanding healthcare services, new Primary Health Centres (PHCs) are being launched across the state. Dr. Saha also expressed concern about the growing issue of drug addiction and HIV/AIDS, particularly among injectable drug users. Calling for a collective effort to address these challenges, he emphasized, “We must all join hands in the fight against drugs. The government stands with the people in this mission.”
