"Turbocharging Trade: JNPA Port Gets ₹4,500 Crore Highway Boost"

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield high-speed National Highway connecting JNPA Port (Pagote) to Chowk in Maharashtra. The 29.219 km corridor will be developed with an investment of ₹4,500 crore.

Aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the project aims to enhance connectivity to major ports. Increasing container traffic at JNPA and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport have necessitated improved highway infrastructure.

Currently, travel from JNPA Port to NH-48 and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway takes two to three hours due to congestion in urban hubs like Palaspe Phata and Panvel. With the airport set to begin operations in 2025, demand for direct road connectivity is expected to surge. The new highway will streamline logistics by linking JNPA Port with NH-48, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and NH-66.

The project features two tunnels through the Sahyadri hills, facilitating seamless commercial vehicle movement and expediting freight transport. This corridor will significantly improve port connectivity, enhancing regional economic growth.
