Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works is embarking on a significant infrastructure endeavor in Little Nicobar Island with the initiation of a new RCC jetty project. Valued at ₹19.66 Crore, this project aims to enhance connectivity and stimulate socio-economic development in the region.
The project's key features include a main jetty spanning 122 meters in length and 5.4 meters in width, providing a stable and secure landing point for passenger and cargo ferries. Additionally, an auxiliary berthing jetty and a ferry ramp ensure efficient vessel maneuverability and safe disembarkation for passengers and vehicles.
The potential benefits of this project are substantial, including improved accessibility to Little Nicobar, which can foster trade, tourism, and essential services. Moreover, enhanced connectivity may lead to economic growth, increased tourism activities, and job opportunities, ultimately contributing to social development on the island.
However, several uncertainties need to be addressed, such as assessing the project's environmental impact on marine life and coastal ecosystems. Additionally, ensuring the sustainability of the jetty and actively engaging the local community in the project's development and benefits are essential for its long-term success.
