Upgrading the Corridor: MP Pradhan Pushes for 6-Lane NH-55

Sambalpur MP and senior leader Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to fast-track critical highway infrastructure and safety projects across western Odisha.

Citing surging traffic volumes driven by rapid industrial, commercial, and mining expansion along the vital Sambalpur-Angul-Cuttack corridor, MP Pradhan has requested the upgradation of the existing four-lane stretch of National Highway-55 to six lanes, supplemented by two-lane service roads on both sides to ease local transit and minimize accidents. To further address severe urban bottlenecks and enhance pedestrian safety, the proposal seeks immediate administrative clearance for four underpasses—specifically at Jindal Road, Jarapada, Jerang, and Charmal—along with a dedicated flyover near the Sambalpur City railway station square on National Highway-53.

These integrated enhancements aim to streamline passenger and freight mobility, eliminate accident black spots, and reinforce seamless connectivity between eastern and western commercial hubs in the state.
