The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRCL) has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop a 1,575 km Metro network across the state by 2047, positioning it among India’s largest planned urban transit expansions.
Presenting the roadmap at the “Viksit Uttar Pradesh for Viksit Bharat@2047” seminar, UPMRCL Managing Director Sushil Kumar outlined major extensions in the state’s three operational metro cities—225 km in Lucknow, 200 km in Kanpur, and 100 km in Agra. The blueprint further proposes 150 km networks each in Noida–Greater Noida, Varanasi, and Prayagraj, along with 50 km systems in Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, and Meerut. Nearly 790 km of the total network is planned for completion by 2035.
Emphasizing financial viability, Kumar noted that the state’s annual contribution for the initial 525 km phase would be ₹1,040 crore, adding that UPMRCL’s track record reflects “proven efficiency” in timely project execution.
