UP's Skies Are No Longer the Limit: 5 New Airports Take Off!

On January 11, 2024, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced significant developments in Uttar Pradesh's aviation infrastructure. Over the next month, the state is set to welcome five new airports in Azamgarh, Aligarh, Moradabad, Chitrakoot, and Shravasti, bringing the total number of airports in the state to 19.

During a virtual event, Minister Scindia inaugurated a direct flight between Ayodhya and Ahmedabad from New Delhi. This move enhances connectivity, with Ayodhya now offering three direct flights per week to Ahmedabad. The event witnessed the participation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Tourism and Culture Minister Jayveer Singh, as well as Lok Sabha members Lallu Singh and Kirit Premjibhai Solanki.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya on December 30. IndiGo, commencing services between Ayodhya and Delhi on January 11, is set to operate thrice-weekly flights between Ayodhya and Ahmedabad. Additionally, the airline plans to initiate operations on the Mumbai-Ayodhya route starting January 15.

The Ayodhya airport, spanning 6,500 sq. mtrs. and currently capable of handling 600 passengers during peak hours, is slated for expansion. The second phase of development aims to increase its capacity to accommodate 3,000 passengers. Minister Scindia highlighted plans for further expansion, including the extension of the runway, enabling the landing of larger aircraft and facilitating international flights in the future.
