Urban Expansion & Innovation: Bihar’s ₹305Cr Tech Bet

In its first Cabinet meeting chaired by Samrat Choudhary, the Government of Bihar approved a series of major initiatives focused on urban development, education, and skill enhancement.

Among the key decisions is the development of 11 satellite townships around major cities to support planned urban expansion. These townships have been designated as Patliputra (Patna), Magadh (Gaya), Mithila (Darbhanga), Koshi (Saharsa), Purnia, Ang (Munger), Vikramshila (Bhagalpur), Tirhut (Muzaffarpur), Saran (Chapra), Sitapuram (Sitamarhi), and Hariharnathpuram (Sonepur). Land transactions in these zones have been restricted until detailed master plans are finalised.

The Cabinet also approved the state’s ₹305 crore contribution toward a research park at IIT Patna, aimed at creating a major technology hub for eastern India. The project is expected to generate around 10,000 jobs and facilitate collaboration with nearly 1,000 Fortune companies through long-term partnerships.

In addition, the government has cleared the upgradation of 75 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to strengthen skill development and improve youth employability through modern training infrastructure.

A total of 19 other proposals were also approved, reflecting the state’s broader push toward infrastructure expansion, industrial growth, and workforce development.
