Vedanta Group has announced plans to evaluate an investment of ₹70,000 to ₹80,000 crore in West Bengal aimed at setting up power generation infrastructure and an aluminium smelter.
Following a high-level discussion between Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the company is assessing resource availability, infrastructure feasibility, and logistical integration with its Odisha alumina operations. While Paschim Bardhaman district—where Vedanta already holds land—is a leading candidate for the project, alternative locations across West Bengal are also under review.
Beyond direct facility development, the initiative promises widespread direct and indirect economic benefits, generating extensive scope for EPC contracts, logistics networks, and industrial infrastructure support. Final timelines and project parameters will be finalized following comprehensive feasibility assessments.
