VOC Port: Leading India’s Green Shipping Revolution

V.O. Chidambaranar (VOC) Port Authority has strengthened its sustainability and clean energy agenda through strategic partnerships focused on green fuels, renewable energy infrastructure, and ESG-driven port operations.

The port has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AM Green Ammonia (India) Pvt. Ltd. for the development of a 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) green ammonia facility at Thoothukudi. The proposed project will encompass infrastructure for ammonia handling, storage, and bunkering, along with pilot bunkering activities, safety frameworks, and training programmes to support the emerging green fuel ecosystem.

Additionally, VOC Port Authority has entered into a collaboration with Bureau Veritas (India) Pvt. Ltd. to advance sustainability initiatives, including Green Port certification, emissions measurement and reporting, ESG compliance, safety validation, and green bunkering practices. The partnership also envisages the creation of a Centre of Excellence dedicated to green fuels and sustainable maritime solutions.

These initiatives underscore VOC Port Authority’s commitment to transforming Thoothukudi into a leading hub for clean energy and sustainable port operations, while supporting India's broader decarbonisation and green shipping objectives.
