Wabag Wins Big: Rs 340 Crore Water Deal with GAIL

Chennai-based VA Tech Wabag has won a Rs 340 crore contract from GAIL (India) to design, build, and operate (DBO) water treatment and effluent recycling plants at GAIL’s petrochemical complex in Pata, Uttar Pradesh. The project includes a 450 m³/hr ultrafiltration (UF) and reverse osmosis (RO)-based effluent recycling plant, a zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system, a new wastewater treatment facility, and upgrades to an existing plant.

The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) phase will be completed in 24 months, followed by six months of operations and maintenance (O&M). Projects and Development India (PDIL) will oversee the project as Engineer-in-Charge, with the recovered water being reused for cooling tower makeup.

Additionally, Wabag has secured a repeat Rs 20 crore O&M contract from IOCL to manage the tertiary treatment reverse osmosis (TTRO) plant at the Panipat Refinery, Haryana, for another three years. Wabag, which built and has operated the plant since its commissioning in 2006, continues to maintain India's first industrial water recycling facility in the oil and gas sector.
