WATCO's 24/7 Water Project Rolls Out in Bhubaneswar

The Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) has initiated a 24x7 water supply project for Town Planning (TP) Schemes I to IV in Tamando and Chandaka, located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

The project involves the construction of 11 elevated storage reservoirs and provision of tap water connections to 5,191 households in TP Schemes I–III, and 475 households in Scheme IV. A tender has been floated to appoint a construction agency to complete the work within two years. WATCO will maintain the infrastructure for 60 months post-completion.

Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) Vice-Chairman N Thirumala Naik stated that WATCO is managing the water infrastructure, while BDA is responsible for roads and drainage. Future phases will include the development of underground sewerage systems.

So far, BDA has completed 60 km of embankment roads, 65 km of drainage, 29 culverts, and 4 km of bitumen surfacing. The TP schemes aim to promote planned urban expansion, with landowners contributing 40% of their land for infrastructure while retaining 60% for private use.
