Winds of Change: ABB’s First Local Converter Dispatched

ABB has announced the dispatch of its first locally manufactured wind power converter from its advanced Nelamangala facility in Bengaluru, following the acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in December 2025.

The milestone underscores ABB’s strengthened commitment to the renewable energy sector, particularly wind power, in India and global markets. The converter, supplied to a wind turbine original equipment manufacturer (OEM), integrates Gamesa Electric’s proven wind energy conversion technologies into ABB’s product portfolio. The development aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives, reinforcing India’s position as a growing global hub for renewable energy manufacturing.

India, currently the world’s third-largest wind manufacturing base, is expected to meet around 10 per cent of global wind energy demand by 2030 and aims to scale its installed wind capacity to 107 GW. Commenting on the development, Anoop Anand, President of ABB India’s Motion High Power Division, said advanced wind technologies are critical to accelerating the energy transition and enabling efficient grid integration.
