Delegations from the World Bank and Asian Development Bank conducted a review of ongoing infrastructure and urban development projects in the greenfield capital city of Amaravati on 11 May 2026.
The visit was aimed at assessing progress of works being implemented by the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority. The teams interacted with senior officials and reviewed project execution on the ground, including environmental and social safeguard compliance, labour welfare arrangements, and smart city development initiatives across the capital region.
Officials said the review underscored the focus on sustainable urban planning and integrated infrastructure development in Amaravati. The visiting delegation included Dennis McLaughlin along with other representatives from the multilateral institutions.
As part of the field inspection, the teams visited the Gravity Canal site at N16 Junction near Dondapadu, labour accommodation facilities, and several active construction zones. They also examined operations at the APCRDA Command and Control Centre, reviewing integrated monitoring systems, smart governance frameworks, and emerging technology applications being explored for the capital city, including early-stage quantum computing use cases.
