Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with Ministers N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Adluri Lakshman, inaugurated Unit 1 (800 MW) of the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) near Damaracherla, Nalgonda district.
With Unit 2 commissioned in December 2024, two out of five units (totaling 4,000 MW) are now operational. Developed by Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO), YTPS is set to become India’s largest public-sector thermal power project.
The ministers also laid the foundation for an integrated township at the plant site, spread over 55 acres with an investment of Rs 970 crore.
Unit 3 is scheduled for commissioning in October 2025, followed by Unit 4 in December, with the full project to be dedicated to the nation in January 2026. Minister Vikramarka attributed delays to the previous government’s inaction on environmental clearances, resulting in a two-year delay and increased costs. He assured compensation for land donors and job opportunities for families affected by the Yadadri and Pulichintala projects.
