The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri has approved a ₹186 crore investment to enhance the sewerage infrastructure in the twin cities of Haryana. The decision was made during a House meeting chaired by Mayor Suman Bahamani in Yamunanagar, aimed at tackling long-standing issues of sewage overflow and insufficient drinking water supply.
During the session, a comprehensive proposal was presented to address the persistent sewerage problems. Mayor Bahamani, along with MC Commissioner Akhil Pilani, questioned Public Health Engineering Department officials about the recurring challenges. In response, the department outlined plans to lay 114 km of sewage pipelines in Yamunanagar at a cost of ₹114 crore, and an additional 20 km of pipelines in Jagadhri.
A key component of the project includes the construction of a new sewage treatment plant (STP) with an investment of ₹75 crore to support the expanded network. The new pipelines will cover all residential colonies within the MC's jurisdiction, significantly improving sanitation and wastewater management.
This large-scale initiative underscores the civic body’s commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure and enhancing public health standards, especially in the rapidly growing cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.
