Bengaluru’s Hebbal flyover is set to receive an additional traffic loop by the end of December to help ease persistent congestion in the area.
The new loop will cater to vehicles coming from Yelahanka, Jakkur, and Sahakarnagar, enabling better segregation of traffic streams. Once operational, it will allow smoother, uninterrupted movement by separating local traffic, airport-bound vehicles, and Outer Ring Road (ORR) traffic. At present, traffic police alternate between local and airport expressway flow to manage congestion, but the new loop is expected to eliminate the need for this system.
However, the loop will narrow to six metres where it merges with the main flyover, creating a potential bottleneck over the final 100 metres. Despite this limitation, officials anticipate that overall travel delays will still be reduced due to improved traffic segregation.
Meanwhile, congestion on the flyover has shifted toward Mehkri Circle, with queues extending up to Baptist Hospital. To address this, the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) is working on widening the Mehkri Circle service road to facilitate a free left turn toward Jayamahal Road, further improving traffic flow in the area.
