Flavors of Progress: Nagaland Launches 4 Food & Incubation Centres

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated four incubation and food processing centres across the state on June 8, 2026, under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2024–25 scheme, marking a significant step towards strengthening rural entrepreneurship, agricultural value addition, and industrial development.

The initiative is aimed at improving market access for farmers, supporting local entrepreneurs, and generating employment opportunities for youth across the state. The newly inaugurated facilities include a Food Processing Centre at the State Industrial Area in Toluvi, Dimapur, as well as three additional centres launched virtually: the Incubation Centre for Entrepreneurs and Infrastructure Development at the Industrial Growth Centre in Ganeshnagar, Chümoukedima; the Incubation Centre for Food Processing in Tuensang; and a Modern Aggregation Centre at Longnak in Mokokchung.

These facilities have been established to promote value-added processing of agricultural produce, strengthen supply chains, enhance product quality, and encourage the growth of rural industries. By providing infrastructure, technical support, and business development opportunities, the centres are expected to help local producers access wider markets and improve income generation.

MLA and Advisor for Industries and Commerce Hekani Jakhalu said the four centres have been developed as pilot projects following extensive research and planning based on the unique economic strengths and resource potential of different regions of the state. She noted that the government intends to replicate the model across Nagaland, with a target of establishing dedicated processing centres in every district by 2028.

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” and reflects the state government’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship-led growth, strengthen rural economies, and create a sustainable ecosystem for small-scale industries and agro-based enterprises. The centres are expected to play a key role in fostering innovation, employment generation, and inclusive economic development across Nagaland.
