Cabinet Approves 3 kW Panels for Homes Under 400 Units

The Delhi Cabinet has approved a revised solar policy under which households consuming up to 400 units of electricity per month will receive free installation of up to three kW rooftop solar panels at zero upfront cost.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the policy is a core pillar of the government’s ‘Green Delhi’ initiative, aimed at accelerating residential solar adoption and lowering electricity expenses. Currently, around 10,000 buildings in Delhi possess solar power generation capabilities, predominantly across government structures. The administration aims to deploy these panels across approximately 2.30 lakh households, adding 500 MW of rooftop capacity by March 2027.

This revised policy marks a major expansion in Delhi's renewable energy sector, combining central and state subsidies alongside free operation and maintenance for the first five years to ease financial barriers for residential properties.
