The Ingot Era Begins: Waaree’s ₹6,200 Cr Solar Move

Waaree Energies Ltd has announced the groundbreaking of what it says will be India’s largest integrated solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility at Butibori in Nagpur.

The upcoming plant will have a production capacity of 10 GW each for solar ingots and wafers, forming a critical part of India’s solar photovoltaic value chain. Spread across 300 acres, the project involves an estimated investment of ₹6,200 crore. Once operational, the facility is expected to strengthen domestic manufacturing of key upstream solar components and reduce India’s dependence on imports.

The announcement was made during a ceremonial groundbreaking event attended by senior government officials and industry leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.

According to the company, the integrated facility will produce high-purity solar ingots and wafers, which are essential raw materials in solar photovoltaic manufacturing. By expanding domestic capacity in these upstream segments, the project aims to enhance supply chain resilience and support India’s long-term energy security objectives.
