Sky's the Limit: Pune Airport Expansion Proposal Takes Flight.

The Maharashtra Government has submitted a proposal to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for the expansion of Pune Airport, aiming to enhance the region’s aviation infrastructure and operational capacity.

The project plan includes the acquisition of over 300 acres of land to enable runway extension, additional aircraft parking bays, and the establishment of a state-of-the-art Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility. The new MRO unit will facilitate local aircraft servicing, reducing dependence on major metropolitan centres for maintenance. Additionally, a dedicated terminal for private aircraft and helicopters is proposed to meet the rising demand for business and charter aviation.

The proposal is currently awaiting clearance from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), as Pune Airport operates under the jurisdiction of the Indian Air Force. The land acquisition process will cover both government and privately owned parcels.
