The much-anticipated launch of Noida International Airport has been postponed by four months, with commercial operations now set to begin by the end of April next year. The delay stems from setbacks in the delivery of construction materials and equipment.
Originally slated to open by December's end, the new timeline was announced by Yamuna International Airport Private Ltd (YIAPL). The company cited Covid-19 restrictions and supply chain issues caused by geopolitical conflicts as primary reasons for the delay.
YIAPL, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport, is developing this second airport for the Delhi National Capital Region in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government. In its initial phase, the airport will operate a single runway, capable of handling 12 million passengers annually.
Significant progress has been made on key infrastructure, including the runway, passenger terminal, and control tower. Concessions for ground handling and commercial operations have been awarded, and maintenance contracts have been secured.
Additionally, agreements with several airlines for flight connections from Noida International Airport have been finalized, ensuring readiness for a strong start once operations commence.
