Raxaul Airport 2.0: Ready to Spread Its Wings

The brownfield expansion of Raxaul Airport in Bihar—originally constructed in 1962—is set to enter the construction tendering phase following the transfer of 139 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI). With compensation for affected tenants largely completed, the redevelopment will extend the current 1,372-meter runway to 2,360 meters to enable larger aircraft operations. The project will also add a new terminal building, Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, taxiway, and apron, boosting cross-border aviation connectivity between India and Nepal.
