Avinya: Tata Motors' New Multi-Platform Threat to Global Luxury EVs

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles is set to launch its premium Avinya EV brand by combining a globally developed electric vehicle architecture with homegrown Indian design, manufacturing, and integration expertise.

Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra announced that after evaluating multiple electric platforms, the company selected an advanced architecture from the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Chery JLR ecosystem. This collaborative approach allows Tata Motors to leverage proven global technology, quality, and reliability, while customizing the vehicles for Indian roads, climate conditions, and customer preferences. While the foundation will rely on partner technologies and components—specifically the Freelander-linked architecture for the initial model—Tata Motors will retain strict control over design, vehicle integration, and manufacturing.

The first Avinya model is scheduled for launch toward the end of 2026, with production expected at the new Tata Motors-JLR facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu. While the debut model utilizes this specific architecture, future Avinya vehicles may adopt alternative platforms, including Tata Motors’ proprietary frameworks or other collaborative solutions. Positioned as a distinct, premium electric brand, Avinya aims to challenge global luxury EV manufacturers by merging cutting-edge technology with scalable local engineering.
