BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to establish a manufacturing facility near Hyderabad, making Telangana the first Indian state to host a BYD factory. This decision comes after extensive discussions with the state government, which has pledged full support, including land allocation for the project.
The Telangana government has identified three potential sites near Hyderabad, with BYD representatives currently evaluating them before finalizing the location. Once a site is selected, an agreement will be signed with state authorities. The project is expected to be one of the largest private-sector investments in India’s EV industry.
In addition to vehicle manufacturing, BYD plans to build a 20-GW battery production plant in India to support its expansion. The company aims to ramp up production capacity to 600,000 EVs annually over the next five to seven years, necessitating substantial investment.
This initiative is also expected to spur the growth of ancillary industries producing EV components, positioning Telangana as a key automotive manufacturing hub.
