Chakan Gets a Manufacturing Mega-Boost from SAVWIPL

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd (SAVWIPL) is expanding its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, as part of Volkswagen’s “India 2.5” strategy. This initiative aims to enhance local production capabilities and position India as a key global automobile hub.

Located in the MIDC Industrial Area Phase III, the expansion received approval from the Maharashtra government in September 2024. The project involves an investment of Rs 15,000 crore, with an estimated construction cost of Rs 13,000 crore, covering approximately 2 million square feet.

The upgraded facility will focus on sustainable mobility, manufacturing Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and advanced internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It will also boost production capacity for hybrid and electric vehicles, reinforcing Skoda Volkswagen’s presence in India's EV sector.

Additionally, the expansion is expected to create around 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, contributing to regional economic growth.
